What is Vascepa (icosapent ethyl)?

Vascepa is a prescription-grade purified omega-3 fatty acid medication containing icosapent ethyl (EPA), used to lower very high triglyceride levels and—at the cardiovascular dose—to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in high-risk patients with elevated triglycerides who are already on statin therapy. Unlike fish oil supplements, Vascepa contains only EPA without DHA, which is important because DHA can raise LDL cholesterol.
