What is Vascepa?

Vascepa is a prescription-grade purified omega-3 fatty acid medication containing Vascepa (EPA), used to lower very high triglyceride levels and—at the cardiovascular dose—to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in high-risk patients with elevated triglycerides who are already on statin therapy. Unlike fish oil supplements, Vascepa contains only EPA without DHA, which is important because DHA can raise LDL cholesterol. At prescription doses, it delivers far more EPA than any supplement and has demonstrated meaningful reductions in cardiovascular events in clinical trials.

Contains only Vascepa (eicosapentaenoic acid) without DHA, avoiding the LDL-raising effect associated with DHA while delivering the triglyceride-lowering and cardiovascular-protective benefits attributed specifically to EPA.

Triglyceride reduction

At 4g daily, Vascepa reduces very high triglyceride levels by approximately 20–30% through multiple mechanisms including reduced hepatic triglyceride synthesis and increased triglyceride clearance from the blood.

The REDUCE-IT trial demonstrated that high-dose Vascepa reduced major cardiovascular events—including heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death—by approximately 25% in high-risk statin-treated patients with elevated triglycerides.
