Thyroid nodule evaluation

A thyroid nodule found on an exam or scan is common — most are benign, and a clear evaluation is the best next step. A General Medicine clinician reviews your history and builds a referral request, so your in-person visit starts without delay. If something's missing, we handle it before you go.

Reasons to book a thyroid nodule evaluation through General Medicine

We make sure your endocrinologist has your ultrasound and lab results before your visit, so you're not repeating the same story twice.

You've been told you have a thyroid nodule on an exam or scan

You have symptoms like a lump in your neck, or changes in your voice or swallowing

You want a specialist opinion on whether further testing is needed

You'd rather not spend time finding and vetting an endocrinologist yourself

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to book?

Whether virtual or in person, you never need a referral before booking a visit with General Medicine. For in-person visits, we reach out to specialists near you to schedule your appointment. Tell us who you'd prefer, or let us choose for you — either way, we confirm they're in-network before booking. If that specialist requires a referral, our clinical team reviews your health history and symptoms, and if it all lines up, creates a referral for you before we book. That referral is yours to keep, whether we book for you or you take it somewhere else.

How does pricing work?

Before checkout, you'll see an estimated cash and insurance price based on your specialist and plan, but you won't pay until your visit — and that amount may shift with your care needs. All you pay today is $45. $15 covers a General Medicine clinician reviewing your info and providing a referral. $30 covers scheduling coordination: confirming the specialist's in-network, booking a time that works for you, and sending your history ahead. These fees aren't covered by insurance, but are FSA/HSA eligible.

Do I need to have already had an ultrasound?

If you haven't had a thyroid ultrasound yet, we'll help you get one first, then coordinate your specialist visit based on the results.

What happens if the nodule needs a biopsy?

Many thyroid nodules are benign and just need monitoring. If your ultrasound suggests further testing, your endocrinologist may recommend a fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy — a quick, in-office procedure — to get a clearer answer.

Will I need thyroid hormone testing too?

Often, yes — a TSH blood test is a standard part of characterizing a thyroid nodule, and we can help coordinate that alongside your ultrasound.
