Sports Medicine Office Visit
In-person visit

Meet with a local sports medicine specialist

When an injury needs a hands-on exam, in-office imaging, an injection, or an opinion about surgical options, a sports medicine specialist can take it from there. A General Medicine clinician reviews your history and builds a referral request, so your in-person visit starts without delay. If something's missing, we handle it before you go.

Reasons to book an in-person sports medicine visit

If your injury needs a hands-on exam, imaging done in the same visit, or a procedure a virtual visit can't provide, we'll connect you directly with a local specialist and send your history and imaging ahead.

An injury or finding that needs a hands-on exam or in-office imaging

Considering an injection, or unsure if surgery might be the next step

Ready to return to your sport and need a physical clearance, not just a plan

An ongoing issue that hasn't responded to first-line care and needs a specialist's eyes on it directly

Not sure if this is the right next step for you?

Book a visit with a General Medicine clinician first — and they'll help you figure out what's next.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to book?

Whether virtual or in person, you never need a referral before booking a visit with General Medicine. For in-person visits, we reach out to specialists near you to schedule your appointment. Tell us who you'd prefer, or let us choose for you — either way, we confirm they're in-network before booking. If that specialist requires a referral, our clinical team reviews your health history and symptoms, and if it all lines up, creates a referral for you before we book. That referral is yours to keep, whether we book for you or you take it somewhere else.

How does pricing work?

Before checkout, you'll see an estimated insurance price based on your specialist and plan, but you won't pay until your visit — and that amount may shift with your care needs. All you pay today is $45. $15 covers a General Medicine clinician reviewing your info and providing a referral. $30 covers scheduling coordination: confirming the specialist's in-network, booking a time that works for you, and sending your history ahead. These fees aren't covered by insurance, but are FSA/HSA eligible.

How do I know if I need to see a sports medicine specialist right away?

Most sports injuries, overuse issues, and performance concerns don't need urgent care. But if you have sudden, severe pain, a limb that's cold, pale, or numb, chest pain or fainting during exercise, or signs of heat illness, don't wait for a scheduled visit — call 911 or go to your nearest ER. This visit is for ongoing evaluation and care, not an active emergency.

Can I get a return-to-play or activity clearance through this visit?

Yes. Share your sport, training, or competition details when you book, and your specialist can evaluate whether you're ready to return to activity, or what still needs to happen first.

How is this different from a virtual sports injury visit?

A virtual visit is a good starting point for figuring out what's going on and building a plan — see our sports injury visit for that option. Book this visit instead when you already know you need a hands-on exam, in-office imaging, an injection, or an opinion about surgical options, since those need to happen in person.
