What is Yaz?

Yaz combines an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (drospirenone) to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation. It's also specifically FDA-approved to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a severe form of PMS, and moderate acne in people who also want contraception. Which use applies to you shapes how your clinician talks through it, but the medication itself is the same.

Prevents ovulation

A combination hormonal contraceptive that prevents ovulation, so there's no egg available to be fertilized.

Also treats PMDD

FDA-approved to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in addition to preventing pregnancy.

Also treats acne

Also FDA-approved for moderate acne in people who choose it for birth control.
