What is Triamcinolone?

Kenalog is a medium-to-high potency topical corticosteroid cream used to relieve the inflammation, itching, and redness associated with a wide range of skin conditions—including eczema, psoriasis, allergic contact dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin disorders. Triamcinolone works by suppressing the local inflammatory response in the skin, reducing the immune activity that causes flare-ups. It's applied directly to affected areas once or twice daily in thin layers. Like all topical steroids, it's generally used for the shortest effective period to manage flares, avoiding prolonged use on sensitive skin areas.

Local corticosteroid action

Suppresses phospholipase A2 and downstream inflammatory mediators within the skin, reducing the redness, swelling, itching, and cellular infiltration that characterize inflammatory and allergic skin conditions.

Medium-to-high potency range

Triamcinolone's potency makes it effective for stubborn or moderate-to-severe skin inflammation where lower-potency steroids haven't provided adequate relief—while still being safer than the highest-potency topical steroids for most body areas.

Rapidly reduces the intense pruritus and visible inflammation of eczema, psoriasis, and contact dermatitis flares, providing relief that allows the skin to recover and the barrier to begin healing.
