What is Terbinafine?

Terbinafine is an oral antifungal most commonly prescribed for fungal nail infections (onychomycosis), and it's also used for certain fungal skin infections. It works by stopping the fungus from building the cell membrane it needs to survive. Because nails grow slowly, a full course typically runs 6 to 12 weeks, and visible improvement in the nail itself takes longer as it grows out.

Fungal membrane disruption

Blocks an enzyme fungi need to build their cell membranes, causing the fungal cells to die off.

Stronger option for nail fungus

More effective than topical treatments for nail fungal infections, which are notoriously hard to clear from the outside.

Long treatment course

Typically taken for 6 to 12 weeks, with visible nail improvement taking additional months as the nail regrows.
