What is sildenafil?

Sildenafil — the generic form of Viagra® —is a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It belongs to a class of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors, which work by relaxing smooth muscle and increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. It does not cause an erection on its own — arousal is still required — but it makes the body's natural response significantly more reliable. Sildenafil typically takes effect within 30–60 minutes and lasts up to four to six hours.

PDE5 inhibition

Sildenafil blocks the enzyme PDE5, which normally restricts blood flow to the penis — allowing blood vessels to relax and fill more effectively during arousal.

Improved erectile response

By enhancing circulation, sildenafil makes erections easier to achieve, harder to lose, and more consistent across different situations and stress levels.

Taken as needed rather than daily, sildenafil fits naturally into your routine without requiring a fixed schedule or ongoing commitment.
