What is Pristiq?

Pristiq is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) used to treat major depressive disorder. Affecting both serotonin and norepinephrine, rather than serotonin alone, can make it an option when an SSRI hasn't been fully effective. It's taken once daily in an extended-release form, and like other antidepressants, full effect builds over several weeks.

Dual neurotransmitter effect

Affects both serotonin and norepinephrine, a broader mechanism than a typical SSRI.

Extended-release formulation

An extended-release tablet taken once daily, releasing the medication steadily over the day for consistent symptom coverage.

Gradual improvement

Full antidepressant effect builds gradually over several weeks of consistent use, similar to most other antidepressants.
