What is Pantoprazole (Protonix)?

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid your stomach produces. It's prescribed for conditions caused or worsened by excess stomach acid, including GERD, erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. By significantly lowering acid output, it allows irritated or damaged tissue in the esophagus and stomach to heal. It's typically taken once daily before a meal and may be used short-term to heal damage or long-term to manage chronic acid-related conditions.
