What is Ozempic®?
Ozempic® is an FDA-approved semaglutide injection specifically designed for adults with type 2 diabetes—and not for weight loss alone. Unlike other GLP-1 therapies, this is indicated for patients who need blood sugar control and protection against serious complications that often accompany type 2 diabetes.
What makes Ozempic® distinct is its triple indication. It's FDA-approved to improve glycemic control, reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease, and reduce the risk of kidney disease worsening, kidney failure, and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. This makes it the most broadly indicated GLP-1 receptor agonist in its class.
Taken once weekly, Ozempic® works by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone your body naturally produces to regulate blood sugar, slow digestion, and reduce appetite. Most patients start at a lower dose and increase to a maintenance dose based on their blood sugar response and tolerance.

Improves blood sugar control
by stimulating insulin release when blood sugar is elevated and reducing the amount of glucose your liver produces—helping you maintain healthier A1C levels over time.
Slows gastric emptying
Food moves more slowly through your digestive system, which helps prevent blood sugar spikes after meals and creates a feeling of fullness that can support weight management.
Reduces appetite and food cravings
By activating GLP-1 receptors in your brain—which is why many patients experience weight loss while taking Ozempic®
Protects your heart and kidneys.
Clinical trials show Ozempic® significantly reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in patients with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease—and reduces kidney disease progression in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Ongoing support, always available.
You’ll be treated by experts with years of experience in managing weight, metabolic health, and related conditions such as hypertension and insulin resistance.

How Ozempic® can change your day-to-day
Blood sugar stability you can feel
Many patients describe fewer dramatic highs and lows throughout the day—less shakiness, fewer energy crashes, and a greater sense of metabolic control that improves daily life.
Confidence in long-term health
Knowing you're actively reducing your risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure, changes how you think about your future with type 2 diabetes.
Weight loss as a welcome side effect
While Ozempic® isn't prescribed for weight loss alone, many patients lose weight while taking it—which can improve other aspects of metabolic health and make physical activity feel more accessible.
With General Medicine, weight loss is a part of your long-term care plan.
Whether you want access to a GLP-1 or a more comprehensive approach, you’ll always start with an expert clinician. They evaluate your full health history, lifestyle, and past weight-loss attempts to build a plan designed for long-term health.

Across trials, Ozempic® consistently produced clinically meaningful reductions in blood sugar compared to placebo.
Many patients also experience meaningful weight loss as a secondary benefit, though weight reduction varies and is not the primary therapeutic goal.
