What is Indomethacin?

Indomethacin is a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat moderate to severe pain and inflammation in conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout flares, and bursitis. It's one of the most powerful NSAIDs available and is particularly valued for acute gout because of how rapidly and effectively it reduces the intense joint inflammation of a gout attack. It works by inhibiting COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes to reduce prostaglandin production. Because of its potency, it carries a higher risk of GI side effects than milder NSAIDs and is typically used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration.
