What is Forteo?
Anabolic bone formation stimulation
Activates PTH type 1 receptors on osteoblasts—the cells responsible for building new bone—stimulating them to produce and mineralize new bone matrix, increasing bone density and structural strength.
Fracture risk reduction
By building new bone rather than simply slowing its loss, Forteo produces meaningful increases in bone mineral density at the spine and hip, translating to significant reductions in vertebral and non-vertebral fracture risk.
Sequential therapy design
Used for up to 2 years to generate new bone mass, then followed by an antiresorptive medication like a bisphosphonate to preserve the gains—a strategic sequence that maximizes long-term skeletal benefit.
