The Essential STD Panel screens for the most common sexually transmitted infections — typically including HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. It's designed as an efficient baseline screen for sexually active individuals who want core coverage without the full comprehensive panel.

Does this panel test for herpes?

The Essential panel does not typically include herpes antibody testing. If you want to screen for HSV-1 or HSV-2, the Herpes Simplex Antibody Test (IgG) or the Comprehensive STD Panel can be added or selected separately.

Do I need symptoms to get tested?

No — and that's the point. Most common STIs cause no symptoms at all. Routine screening is recommended for all sexually active people, regardless of whether they feel fine. Testing without symptoms is how most infections get caught before they cause complications or spread to partners.

How long after a potential exposure should I wait to test?

Timing matters. HIV testing is most reliable 18–45 days after exposure depending on the test type. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are detectable within days. Syphilis may take 3–6 weeks. If you're testing after a known exposure, a clinician can advise on retesting if the timing is too early.

If I test positive, what happens next?
