What is Cyproheptadine?

Cyproheptadine is a first-generation antihistamine with a broader range of uses than most allergy medications. While it treats allergic symptoms like itching, hives, and runny nose, it's also widely used off-label to stimulate appetite in patients with poor appetite or unintentional weight loss, to prevent migraines, and to manage serotonin syndrome. Its appetite-stimulating effect comes from its blockade of serotonin receptors involved in satiety signaling. It causes significant sedation, which can be a side effect or a therapeutic benefit depending on the patient's needs.
