What is Clobetasol?

Clobetasol propionate is one of the most potent topical corticosteroids available by prescription, used for short-term treatment of severe inflammatory and itchy skin conditions including psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus, and other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. It delivers powerful anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects directly to affected skin, rapidly reducing redness, swelling, itching, and scaling in conditions that don't respond adequately to lower-potency steroids. Because of its high potency, it's used sparingly, applied in thin layers, and limited to short treatment courses to minimize the risk of skin thinning and systemic absorption.

Super-potent corticosteroid action

As a Class I (super-high potency) topical steroid, Clobetasol delivers the strongest available level of anti-inflammatory activity—suppressing cytokine production, vasoconstriction, and immune cell activity far more intensely than mid- or low-potency topical steroids.

Rapid severe flare control

The high potency makes it effective for thick, treatment-resistant plaques and severe inflammatory flares where lower-strength topical steroids have failed to provide adequate relief.

Short-course usage design

Intended for brief treatment periods—typically 2 weeks or less—and avoided on the face, groin, and skin folds due to increased risk of skin atrophy, stretch marks, and systemic absorption at high-potency levels.
