What is Celecoxib?

Celecoxib is a prescription NSAID that selectively targets COX-2 enzymes to reduce pain and inflammation while minimizing the stomach-related side effects associated with traditional NSAIDs like ibuprofen. It's prescribed for arthritis (both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid), acute pain, menstrual pain, and ankylosing spondylitis. By sparing COX-1—the enzyme that protects the stomach lining—Celecoxib delivers anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects with a lower risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulcers. It's taken once or twice daily depending on the condition.

Selective COX-2 inhibition

Targets only the COX-2 enzyme responsible for inflammation and pain, while leaving COX-1 largely intact—the enzyme that produces prostaglandins protecting the stomach lining and supporting platelet function.

GI-sparing anti-inflammatory

By avoiding COX-1 inhibition, Celecoxib delivers NSAID-level pain and inflammation control with significantly reduced risk of stomach ulcers, bleeding, and GI irritation compared to non-selective NSAIDs.

Chronic condition management

Well-suited for long-term use in conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis where ongoing anti-inflammatory therapy is needed—offering a more tolerable GI profile for sustained daily use.
