What is Atovaquone-Proguanil?

Atovaquone-Proguanil contains atovaquone-proguanil, an antiparasitic medication. For travelers, it's used to prevent and treat malaria in regions where it's a risk. Separately, it treats Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), a lung infection that occurs in people with weakened immune systems, typically as an alternative for those who can't tolerate the usual first-line treatment. It works by disrupting how the parasite or organism produces energy. It should always be taken with a fatty meal, since this significantly improves absorption.
