What is Armour Thyroid?

Armour Thyroid is a desiccated (dried) thyroid hormone replacement derived from pig thyroid glands, used to treat hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid). Unlike synthetic levothyroxine, which contains only one thyroid hormone, Armour Thyroid contains a natural combination of thyroid hormones. Some people prefer this form or find it works better for them, though the evidence comparing it to synthetic options is mixed. Dosing is adjusted based on regular blood tests.

Hormone replacement

Replaces thyroid hormone for people whose thyroid doesn't produce enough on its own.

Natural, combination hormone source

Derived from animal thyroid gland and contains a combination of thyroid hormones, unlike synthetic single-hormone options.

Dose adjusted by labs

Dose is adjusted based on regular blood tests measuring thyroid hormone levels.
