What is Abrilada (Adalimumab)?

Abrilada is a biosimilar to Humira (adalimumab), a biologic medication that treats a wide range of inflammatory conditions by targeting and neutralizing TNF-alpha—the protein that drives chronic inflammation in diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and plaque psoriasis. As an FDA-approved biosimilar, Abrilada has been shown to have no clinically meaningful differences from Humira in terms of safety, purity, and potency. It offers the same disease-modifying mechanism at a potentially lower cost. It's given as a subcutaneous injection every one to two weeks.

TNF-alpha neutralization

Binds to and blocks tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interrupting the central inflammatory cytokine responsible for joint destruction, intestinal inflammation, and skin plaques across multiple immune-mediated conditions.

FDA-approved biosimilar equivalence

Abrilada has undergone rigorous regulatory review to confirm it is highly similar to reference adalimumab (Humira) with no clinically meaningful differences in safety or effectiveness—providing the same therapeutic benefit.

Disease-modifying biological therapy

Goes beyond symptom control to interrupt the inflammatory cycle causing progressive structural damage in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease—preserving long-term joint and organ function with consistent treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Abrilada and how does it relate to Humira?

Abrilada is an FDA-approved biosimilar to Humira (adalimumab) — confirmed to have no clinically meaningful differences in safety, purity, or potency. It provides the same TNF-alpha blockade for the same range of inflammatory conditions.

Is switching from Humira to Abrilada safe?

FDA biosimilar approval includes an assessment of interchangeability for many biosimilars. Clinicians and insurance plans frequently recommend biosimilars as safe, effective alternatives to the reference product.

How quickly does Abrilada work for rheumatoid arthritis?

Many people notice improvement in joint pain and swelling within 2–4 weeks. For conditions like Crohn's disease or psoriasis, meaningful response may take 4–12 weeks at full therapeutic dosing.

What side effects might I experience?

Injection site reactions, upper respiratory infections, and headache are most common. Because adalimumab suppresses part of the immune system, serious infections including TB reactivation are the most important risks — screened for before starting.

Do I need vaccinations before starting Abrilada?

Yes. Live vaccines cannot be given during adalimumab treatment. Your clinician will review your vaccination history and recommend any needed updates — including flu shot and pneumonia vaccine — before starting.
