Frequently asked questions about GLP-1s and weight loss

Am I eligible for GLP-1 medications?

Eligibility depends on factors like your health history, BMI, and related conditions such as type 2 diabetes. Your clinician reviews all of this with you during your visit and lets you know which options make sense — book a visit to find out what’s right for you.

Do I need lab work before starting?

Sometimes, but not always — it depends on the medication and your health history. Your clinician will let you know if any labs or other testing are needed.

How do follow-up visits work?

You can check in anytime after your first visit — by texting us or booking a follow-up visit — whichever works for you. We’ll also reach out periodically with a quick check-in: you’ll be asked to answer a few questions or get labs, so your clinician can track how things are going between visits. And if they think something’s better addressed in a visit, they’ll ask you to schedule one.

Are these medications safe long-term?

Most GLP-1 medications have years of clinical data behind them, but like any medication, they carry potential side effects and aren’t the right fit for everyone. Your clinician reviews your health history to help you decide whether long-term use makes sense for you.

Will insurance cover my treatment?

Coverage depends on your specific plan and diagnosis. We accept most insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid, and confirm your coverage before you’re charged anything — sign up to see your plan’s pricing. If your plan doesn’t cover it, you’ll see the cash price upfront, with no hidden fees.

What if this medication isn’t right for me?

If a medication isn’t working for you — because of side effects, cost, or just personal preference — your clinician will work with you to explore other options, including other GLP-1s or non-GLP-1 treatments for weight management.

Can I switch treatments later?

Yes — your plan isn’t locked in. If your needs or priorities change, your clinician can help you switch medications or adjust your plan at any point.

Weight loss stories from General Medicine

Knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating

I needed a refill on some meds. They also took care of my GLP-1s. And all this was covered by my insurance. The doctor was knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. I will use General Medicine for any future nonemergency medical needs.

Christopher

Within a few hours... I was prescribed Mounjaro

My in person primary care doctor dropped the ball on getting my Ozempic pre-authorized with my new insurance, and essentially gave up after the first denial... I scheduled with General Medicine instead. Within a few hours I not only paid a lower copay, I was prescribed Mounjaro, which is better suited to treat my type 2 and high cholesterol issues.

Jen

They were really on my side when I was in a tight spot

I called them because my prescription for diabetes medicine had run out and I was transitioning between two HMO’s. I was in a jam - neither of my HMO’s would prescribe anything. I spoke with the doctor online at General Medicine and they made it happen. I got my medicine. I would recommend them, they were really on my side when I was in a tight spot.

James

Very understanding of my needs

My doctor was very understanding of my needs. He increased my Wegovy dose, which was helpful and is helping me now. Because I am pre-diabetic, High blood pressure and also have heart disease, this extra weight is fatal to my health. Now I am losing weight in a healthy way.
