What is Zoloft?

Zoloft is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and one of the most widely prescribed antidepressants in the world. It's used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). By increasing the availability of serotonin in the brain, it helps stabilize mood, reduce anxiety, and improve emotional resilience over time. It's taken once daily and typically requires 4–6 weeks of consistent use before the full therapeutic benefit is felt.

Serotonin reuptake inhibition

Blocks the reabsorption of serotonin in the brain, increasing its availability in the synaptic space and allowing it to exert longer-lasting effects on mood regulation and emotional processing.

Broad psychiatric coverage

Approved for more conditions than most antidepressants—including depression, generalized anxiety, OCD, PTSD, panic disorder, and PMDD—making it a versatile first-line treatment option.

Gradual onset with lasting benefit

Effects build over several weeks as the brain adapts to sustained serotonin levels—most patients begin noticing improvement in mood, sleep, and anxiety within 2–4 weeks of starting.
