What is Protonix?

Protonix is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid your stomach produces. It's prescribed for conditions caused or worsened by excess stomach acid, including GERD, erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. By significantly lowering acid output, it allows irritated or damaged tissue in the esophagus and stomach to heal. It's typically taken once daily before a meal and may be used short-term to heal damage or long-term to manage chronic acid-related conditions.

Proton pump blockade

Irreversibly inhibits the stomach's acid-producing pumps, reducing acid secretion more completely and for longer than antacids or H2 blockers.

Tissue healing

Sustained acid reduction creates the right environment for the esophagus and stomach lining to recover from erosion, inflammation, or ulceration caused by chronic acid exposure.

Symptom relief

Controls heartburn, regurgitation, and chest discomfort associated with GERD and acid reflux, improving daily comfort and protecting the esophagus from long-term damage.
