What is Kerydin?

Kerydin is a prescription topical antifungal solution used to treat onychomycosis—fungal infections of the toenails. It works by blocking a fungal enzyme essential to protein synthesis, using a boron-based mechanism that is structurally distinct from azole antifungals. A key advantage of Kerydin is its small molecular size, which allows it to penetrate the nail plate more effectively than many other topical antifungals and reach the nail bed where the infection resides. It's applied once daily to the affected toenails for 48 weeks, requiring consistent long-term use to match the slow growth rate of nails.

Leucyl-tRNA synthetase inhibition

Blocks the fungal enzyme leucyl-tRNA synthetase through its boron-containing structure, preventing the incorporation of leucine into fungal proteins and halting fungal growth and replication.

Oxaborole nail penetration

Kerydin's small, boron-containing oxaborole molecule has superior nail plate penetration compared to larger antifungal molecules—reaching the subungual space where dermatophytes actually reside and cause infection.

Once-daily 48-week course

Applied nightly for approximately one year to align with the slow natural growth of toenails—complete, consistent application throughout the full treatment course is essential for clearing the infection down to the nail root.
