Experience

Dr. Sim’s path to medicine began with a fascination for the human brain and behavior. As an undergraduate at Wesleyan University, he double-majored in neuroscience and behavior and psychology, where he cultivated a deep interest in the science of development and the dynamics of health from infancy through adolescence. After graduation, he contributed to clinical neuroimaging research in South Korea, gaining experience with brain imaging technologies and their application in behavioral and developmental health research.

He continued this research interest throughout his medical training at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, where he was a student ambassador and the recipient of multiple academic scholarships and honors, including the Deyette and Dahl-Salem Family Scholarships and a 2023 Lamb Fellowship Award nomination.

Since graduating with his medical degree, Dr. Sim has continued his medical training as a pediatric resident at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s leading academic pediatric centers. There, he provides care across both inpatient and outpatient settings, with particular interests in pediatric hospitalist medicine, pediatric intensive care, and pediatric cardiology. His clinical experience is grounded in a family-centered approach to care and a commitment to excellence in evidence-based practice.

Dr. Sim’s academic career has also been distinguished by a strong record of research. His work—spanning from pre-medical research through residency—has led to multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and numerous scientific presentations. He continues to explore ways to integrate clinical care and research in ways that benefit both patients and the broader medical community.

As a writer for General Medicine, Dr. Sim translates complex pediatric topics into clear, practical information for caregivers, patients, and fellow clinicians. His work is informed by firsthand experience at the bedside and a belief in empowering families with accurate, understandable medical knowledge.
